The gateway and coordinator for all communication between system components, this unit is robust and designed for on-board deployment. The Exchange acts as the main interface point for the system and integration into many of the leading timetabling and control systems allows real time service information to be passed to travellers automatically. Interfacing also includes Global Positioning System (GPS) and wayside communications options.

The Exchange also provides support for a range system administration features – such as remote software update, configuration backup and restoration, audio and video synchronisation, and time synchronisation.

An additional Exchange can be added to the system to provide a fault tolerant redundant configuration to ensure high availability. Other optional features included Audio Recording and support for call escalation to public telephony numbers.
