The gateway and coordinator for all communication between system components. The Communications Exchange also provides support for a range system administration features – such as remote software update, configuration backup and restoration, audio synchronisation, and time synchronisation.

As the main interface point for the system, the Exchange supports integration into many of the leading timetabling and control systems allows real time service information to be passed to travellers automatically.

The Exchange performs the system recording and cataloguing for all Long Line Public Address announcements, telephone calls, intercom calls, and emergency telephone calls. Recorded files are then automatically sent to an archiving server for long term storage.

An additional Exchange can be added to the system to provide a fault tolerant redundant configuration and ensure high availability.
